Matsuya Foods Co., Ltd., which operates the tonkatsu chain Matsunoya, will launch Cheese Tomato Hayashi Rice on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 3 p.m. The launch was revealed in an official notice posted to the company’s website on September 4. Alongside the plain version with sauce only, two cutlet-topped items go on sale at the same time, for a three-item lineup.

The three versions and their prices

Item Price (tax included)
Cheese Tomato Hayashi Rice 780 yen
Pork Loin Cutlet Cheese Tomato Hayashi Rice 990 yen
Extra Thick-Cut Rib Loin Cutlet Cheese Tomato Hayashi Rice 1,290 yen

All prices include tax and are the same for dine-in and takeout. Measured against the plain version, the Pork Loin Cutlet item costs 210 yen more and the Extra Thick-Cut Rib Loin Cutlet item 510 yen more. Shareholder Benefit Vouchers can be used on the above menu items.

A sauce built on ripe tomatoes and cheese

On what defines the flavor, the company describes a special sauce that concentrates the bright acidity and umami of tomatoes, paired with rich, full-bodied cheese. It calls the Pork Loin Cutlet tender and the Rib Loin Cutlet juicy and overflowing with meat juices, and says customers can pick according to their mood and how much they want to eat that day.

On sale from 3 p.m. on the 9th, with Matsuya co-located stores excluded

The launch is set for Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 3 p.m. Availability covers Matsunoya locations nationwide excluding some stores, and the notice carries the line “Excluding stores co-located with Matsuya.” Since stores co-located with Matsuya will not carry the item, it is worth checking before deciding where to go.

Takeout is also available. However, miso soup for takeout orders costs extra; on the official menu, Miso Soup is listed at 90 yen.

So the co-located stores get cut out. Same Matsunoya, though.
